41st day from Occimiano to Buroni

Monday, 08/05/23 cloudy to sunny, up to 26°C, windy. It rained during the night but stopped before the start, the weather improved during the day but was windy. First a small detour to the next larger town to replace a defective garment. Continuing through the Po Valley towards the east. Unfortunately, the Po River is rarely visible, even when riding on the dam. We suspect that they do not have paths within the dikes due to the many floods. Our navigation system also did not have the correct bike path for us today and led us through rural roads. We did not see any signs of Eurovelo 8.

The area is very agricultural. In the villages, a large part of the buildings are abandoned and decayed.

We have already noticed the poplar plantations since Turin, which are planted everywhere and reforested. Internet research revealed that they are planted as an energy source (e.g. wood chip power plant).

For our B&B today, we had to change sides of the Po, bridges across the wide river are rare and must be shared by everyone. So, the train, truck, car, motorcycle, and bicycle all cross the bridge. You can guess who is the weakest.

The weather is not forecasted to be good for the next few days, we'll see...
