While in Germany there have been freezing temperatures for weeks, it is still warm here, but unfortunately there have been many rainy days in the last two weeks and summer is slowly coming to an end. The kids and I make the most of every sunny day and we all enjoy the sun!
Unfortunately, just like summer, my au pair time and my wonderful 6.5 months with the De la Rue family are coming to an end. My flights for the travel period and the return flight to Frankfurt are already booked and all the details are fixed. The journey continues for me on March 28th and the backpack needs to be packed with everything possible to "survive" the rainy days in New Zealand and the sunny hours in Bali and on the Australian east coast.
I'm really looking forward to the travel time with the other au pairs I met here! However, it also makes me super sad to imagine leaving the kids and my wonderful host family... I'm sure this goodbye won't be goodbye forever, but still for a very long time! But I try to think as little as possible about all these sad 'goodbye things' and enjoy the last few weeks here in Melbourne - my weekends are packed!
Last weekend, Jenna and Scott invited me to a tapas dinner, which we were all looking forward to for weeks, as we finally found a babysitter!
On Sundays, I took a day trip to Phillip Island with Lauren, the surfer's paradise. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't perfect, but we had a very nice time :)
Last week, Anna organized a small farewell party with four other au pairs. Her host family ordered pizza for all of us and then we went to the city to spend the evening/night there! Later, I unfortunately had to say 'goodbye' to most of them for now, as I only have travel plans with Elisa.
A few days ago, I already had a small farewell dinner (a 'party' as Harry called it), to which the kids' grandparents, Aunt Lauren, and two friends came! Jenna and Scott prepared a lot of food and we all had a nice and cozy evening :)
Next Wednesday I'm off to New Zealand!
Bye au pair life
