The birds, the birds from Lake Titicaca...

Birt: 17.12.2017

The bus ride from Puno to Copacabana is hot and exhausting. We check out at the border crossing in Peru and walk a short distance to the Bolivian immigration office. Unfortunately, the computers there are currently broken, so we all have to copy our passports at the neighboring kiosk, for a fee of course, and submit them at the office. Everything gets stamped and we're in.

Copacabana is definitely nicer than Puno, but we still wouldn't describe it as beautiful. However, what is very beautiful is one of the islands in the middle of the lake, Isla del Sol. This is the destination of our next day trip, unfortunately without the sick Kathrin. So we set off in search of a boat that will take us to the island. The official tourist boat only runs twice a day and has just left, so how do we get to this island? We walk along the shore, but none of the many boats go to Isla del Sol. Just when we've given up hope, an older man who is from the island speaks to us. Lucky us! He takes some fishermen and the two of us with him. So we zip across the lake with the locals and quickly arrive on the sunny island. Unfortunately, today only a part of the island is open to visitors, as the north is closed to visitors due to political unrest. No problem - what we see is very nice! The view of the lake is fantastic and we walk along one of the hiking trails until we take the official tourist boat back. But something seems to be wrong with the engine, because the boat moves at such a snail's pace that we constantly sway from side to side and sometimes even come to a standstill on the lake. When the dissatisfaction of the passengers becomes too great, the driver finally starts engine number 2. Finally - we move at a normal speed and safely reach Copacabana.

However, since we have the feeling that we have now seen everything this city has to offer, we set off for La Paz the next morning.
