36. Post - Weekend in St. Joseph

Birt: 04.03.2024

This weekend, a little trip was planned for Erasmus students. We had booked a villa in the south, 12 beds, a huge kitchen and a pool - simply brilliant!

Justine, Nanou and I

So on Friday after work at school we set off with our bags packed. Nanou, Justine and I were in my car, and there were nine other people in three other cars, as not everyone was leaving at the same time and from the same place.

We arrived around 5 p.m. and first admired the house. It was really beautiful, very bright and modern, but still charming.

Then we went shopping, because on Saturday we always make a little something to eat for an aperitif. We also needed something for dinner and breakfast and of course alcohol :D

After that was done, we briefly enjoyed the phenomenal sunset and the pool while we waited for the others.

When everyone except four people had finally arrived at the AirBnB, we started cooking. Even in a villa, you're always secretly a student, which is why we had pasta with sauce. You don't have to overdo it with luxury :D

Of course, we started drinking and had a great time the whole evening. We played games, listened to music, talked, jumped into the pool (well, everyone except me, because I was coughing like a chain smoker) and just enjoyed the moment. When some of us had already gone to sleep, we played a bit more on the Switch, etc. Suddenly it was 6 a.m. and I decided to head to bed.

After a short night with about 3 hours of sleep, I woke up and immediately started eating again, this time chocolate rolls and bananas :D

Today we wanted to explore the area a bit, but we were not very willing to leave early, so I and three others set off first. The rest came later. First we went to Cascade Jacqueline . We didn't find this waterfall at first, but we did find a really nice path along the coast.

scheeee

Here we were treated to a spectacle of splashing water and the fantastic contrast between the black lava rock, the blue sea and the green plants everywhere. It was really just too beautiful!

We took a short break here and enjoyed the view until we finally found the waterfall.

We then went to a small restaurant that looked extremely inconspicuous, but when we entered we were completely surprised: It was big, the view from the terrace was gigantic, there was a pool (???) and the service was really lovely. The food was authentic Creole and really delicious, but also extremely expensive, which is why I only ordered a drink.

After the feast (at least for the others :D) we met the first group of stragglers and drove off to another basin, the Trou Noir (not a particularly inviting name haha).

The way there is actually really easy, but you have to know that you have to find a parking space BEFORE the third bridge. After the third bridge begins what I think is the most difficult road on the whole island. It's only a short stretch, not even 500 m, but it's really tough to drive and it's not uncommon for people to crash their cars here.

Once we got there, it was really beautiful, but also quite cold, as there was no direct sunlight due to the high rock walls.

After about an hour, the last of us arrived and we spent some time taking photos, chatting and watching a few guys jumping into the water.

That's us 12 (Unfortunately, the cat Elliott didn't want to stand still for the photo)

The next stop was the sunset at Ti Sable , a tiny beach with black volcanic sand. You're not allowed to swim here because the waves are really big, but the sunset was soooooo beautiful *-*

Because the sand is black, it forms a kind of mirror in front of the water, which is truly magical.

In reality of course 1000 times more beautiful ;)

After that, we were all pretty exhausted (especially me, with my two hours of sleep), so we went back to the AirBnB and prepared the little snacks that we had planned for the two of us.

So in the end there were nachos with homemade guacamole, bruschetta, salmon croissants, couscous salad, baguette, dips and cider - in absolute quantities, you could probably have invited the whole of Saint-Jospeh. But everything tasted really delicious and we had a great evening :)

Voilà, the feast

Unfortunately, I can't tell you what else great happened after that because I went to sleep at around 10 p.m. so as not to become even more of a zombie.

The next morning it was pouring with rain, so Nanou, Justine and I got in the car after cleaning up together and drove west. The sky was brilliantly blue (the microclimates on the island are really amazing) and we treated ourselves to a few more hours on the beach. The others were too tired and wanted to go straight home, so they stayed in the AirBnB a little longer to eat the remaining food (as best they could) and then drove back north without stopping.

The three of us headed back home in the late afternoon. It was a really lovely weekend full of fun, nature, food, music and relaxation!
