Along the old Grand Canal, Cangzhou has built and designed a lot in recent years to revitalize the ancient trading tradition and the canal's traditional economic importance for Cangzhou as a historical memory. Old lock facilities, parks, museums, recreational and sports areas stretch as a green band on both sides of the canal from north to south. In the center is a complex of buildings, Nanchuan Old Street, created in traditional architecture that mainly features restaurants and retail shops aimed at a tourist and leisure-oriented clientele. It appears to be developing into a destination for many locals and a meeting point for the youth. Thus, it is a pleasant place for strolling, viewing, and dining. Surrounding a pond is the Nanchun Garden, where garden elements and old architecture harmonize. The large tower by the canal has been reconstructed as the former reception building for the salt transportation area. It stands over 30 meters tall and was originally built in 1532 but was later destroyed during the upheaval from the Ming to Qing Dynasty. Additionally, we discover a Russian grocery store, with its nesting dolls greeting at the doors. In the evening, the entire district is dramatically illuminated. The reflective surface of Nanhu Lake, where a small pavilion sits on an island, contributes significantly to beautiful photos. In the coming years, I will likely showcase and write more about the landscaping along the canal during plant-friendly seasons.
