On the drive to NP Tongariro, the weather was quite okay. I stopped at a trout farm, took a short walk, and had a tea. At Chateau Tongariro, I ordered another tea with sandwiches. But then, I got much more than that. Anyway, I enjoyed these delicacies for an hour. The weather became more unfriendly, so I continued on to the accommodation. I was pleasantly surprised by the luxury and made myself comfortable immediately. I had some wine and wrote a bit. Luckily, I am here for two nights, from September 30th to October 1st, so I can truly enjoy it.
In the morning, I make myself breakfast and drive to Ohakune. I want to buy a rain jacket and rain pants. Unfortunately, I only find the jacket. At the Info Center, I ask about hiking possibilities. The path to Whakapapa Village takes about half an hour. The destination is the Taranaki Falls and the Lower Tama Lake. The hike takes about four hours. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything of Tongariro and only a part of Ruhapehu on the hike. Back in the village, I make stops at 2 more places to see waterfalls or peculiar stones. Nothing spectacular, but walking a bit more doesn't hurt. Although my feet are wet, not from the rain but because I stood in a stream. It's raining more now, and I skip the last one-hour hike. Back in the room, I'm looking forward to the HOT POT! It smells good and is nice and warm. Then a hot shower, a hot tea, and I'm completely satisfied and happy. The shoes are being dried by a shoe heater.
Unfortunately, I have to move on tomorrow.
