After a relaxing beach life, we took the long journey to Kandy. First, by taxi back to Ella (3 hours) and then the beautiful but long train ride to Kandy. The view is great, although most of the time it was rather misty instead of beautiful. After almost 7 hours, we should have arrived, but it took a little longer and we sat on the rattling train for about 9 hours.
Upon arrival in Kandy, we checked into a room at the Hipsters Hideout and spent the next day sightseeing in the city. From the Botanical Garden to Buddha statues to factories (tea, wooden carving, jewellery), we visited the tourist spots and probably saw everything worth seeing, thanks to the great guide Raja. Of course, the Temple of Tooth was also included - culturally very interesting. The only negative point was the water damage in the hostel, where one of our backpacks was completely wet when found. At least it gave us a free laundry service.
After Kandy, we visited Dambulla, where we checked into the great (and dry) Jungle Vista. Besides walks in rice fields, we visited the Pidurangala Rock (Cheap Rock) on Seraina's birthday morning, where we watched the sunrise and the Sigiriya Rock (Lion's Rock).
In the afternoon, we visited the ancient city of Polonnawura with all its ruins and cultural sites. Especially for Yves, there are some photos of the rocky attractions from ancient times.
