Hello everyone,
The days are flying by so far. So many events and appointments... The Walmart trip was really crazy :D It's an understatement to say that the store is huge!! We spent easily 2 hours inside trying to find everything. They really have everything you can imagine. Of course, I stocked up on American groceries right away. Also, sweets like Reeses and Twinkies. As expected, it all added up and I quickly spent $100.
Because there are hardly any Americans here this week, all offices and cafeterias have limited opening hours, but it will be easier from this week onwards. Nevertheless, I have already been to Rebel Market 3 times. It's one of the main cafeterias here on campus. All you can eat and a really great selection. Everything from burgers, pizza, Asian food. And it's really good. I think the meal plan was the right decision.
On Friday evening, I went to a bar here in Oxford with 2 Americans. It was really busy, with ladies lightly dressed to guys in sports clothes. You see everything there. I had a drink called "Taylor Swift". It's a mix of 6-8 different frozen Daiquiris with a shot of rum. The Americans said I had to try it. After brain freeze and a shot of sugar, we went to the gas station for a final stop. Why? All the bars here close between 1-2 am. And then everyone goes to the gas station, which turns into a restaurant at night and sells fried stuff. Actually really good :)
How do I even get from A to B here? Either people with cars give you a ride. Among us exchange students, of course, no one has a car... Option 2 is the bus, which only runs on a regular schedule starting from this week. And third, by bike. That works really well. You can park the bikes everywhere on campus. Unfortunately, my tire got punctured and I had to get it repaired. A bit annoying, but what can you do? Fortunately, it was repaired for free :)
On the weekend, we went on a trip to Memphis. First, we went to the Civil Rights Museum. Really well done! You can easily spend 4-5 hours there - unfortunately, we only had 2 hours. So we didn't see everything, which was really a shame. After that, we went to a mall and an international supermarket. It really ignited the travel bug in us, and that's abroad. So many different things from many countries around the world.
The past few days were a bit quieter. Today, we went shopping for 5-6 hours, and I was in heaven! The Rebel Rags shop. As you can see in the pictures, it's a GIANT FANSHOP of Ole Miss. They really have EVERYTHING! Mugs, signs, jerseys, stickers, tents, pins, buckets, jewelry, caps... The list goes on and on. They have everything you can put a name on. Surprisingly, I didn't buy anything?! I just couldn't decide what's the best... But at least there's a reason to go back.
That's it from me.
Greetings from the USA
Franz
P.S.: How crazy is this? Wiz Khalifa is coming to the university next Friday and performing FOR FREE!!! We don't have that at DHBW ;)
