This morning I woke up in Germany and could hardly believe that it's finally starting.
At half past ten, I started my journey by car to Frankfurt Airport. There I went to the baggage drop-off, where I was really lucky. Officially, my suitcase was allowed to weigh 23 kilos, but the scale at the luggage belt showed a little over 24. The woman only said that I should pack one kilo less next time and waved me through. After that, I had to say goodbye to my parents and go through the security check. I arrived at the boarding gate around one o'clock. We were even taken to the airplane by bus.
The flight was actually quite relaxed. I had brought cable headphones, but of course they were the only ones that didn't work. I passed the time by reading.
The airport in Iceland is really small and I quickly found the luggage belt. However, the suitcases took a while to arrive.
After that, I took the transfer to Reykjavik. About 45 minutes drive and then transfer, as I had booked a direct transfer. After two stops, the bus was completely empty - really, there was no one else in it but me - and the bus driver looked at me very confused and asked where I wanted to go. Then he looked at his navigation device for at least five minutes before actually starting the journey.
At quarter to six (Icelandic time), I finally arrived at the hostel after almost nine and a half hours. The hostel looks really nice and clean.
After my arrival, I went straight out. I actually wanted to go to the supermarket right away, but then I changed my mind and sat down by the sea for a few minutes first. After that, I went to the supermarket and met an older couple there. After a short conversation, it turned out that they also came from Germany. Together, we visited the pizzeria nearby. It took a while for us to understand which menu was in English. While we were waiting for the pizza, the couple told me that they had just returned from a round trip around Iceland and would fly back to Germany again tomorrow.
There is only one other girl from the USA in my room so far. She is 24 years old, a teacher, and has already been to the Blue Lagoon today (that's my goal for tomorrow). She told me how beautiful it was there. She is really nice and even though my English is a bit hesitant, we were able to communicate quite well.
It's only half past nine in Iceland now, but I'm going to bed. Traveling is really exhausting!
See you later
