When the alarm went off at 7:00 a.m., we had already been awake for a long time. The excitement had kept us from sleeping. After a frugal breakfast, we made our way to Munich Airport. We arrived at Terminal 2 promptly at 9:00 a.m. Our flight LH410 departed from the satellite terminal, and it took us almost 2 hours to get to Gate L25, including parking, dropping off our luggage, and going through various security checks. We were sitting in the plane almost on time. The flight lasted almost 8 hours. We had some weather turbulence, and the plane was bouncing up and down quite a bit. For lunch, we had some funny things like white sausage balls filled with sweet mustard. We arrived at JFK Airport in New York earlier than expected, and the weather was sunny. However, things slowed down from here. There was a long queue at immigration, and the only 4 immigration officers were unable to shorten it. It wasn't until more processing counters were opened that things started moving. We went to the officer together, and he asked what we wanted in the USA, took our fingerprints, and took a photo. Done, have a nice day. Our bags were already circling on the baggage carousel, and we were able to quickly proceed to the exit. At 4:00 p.m., we were on the bus to the ship. At that time, we thought we would be on board Mein Schiff 6 no later than 90 minutes. However, what followed was an almost 160-minute stop-and-go drive with a city tour to the ship. At first it was funny, but then it became very annoying for all of us. After all, we had already been traveling for many hours at this point. Due to the 6-hour time difference, it was already bedtime at home. We were stuck on the bus, although we could already admire the beautiful skyline and take photos, we were hardly making any progress, and so we became increasingly impatient. We had long given up hope of being able to do the "Nighttime New York" excursion. But hey, we could already see the nighttime New York from the bus. At 6:45 p.m., we finally, exhausted, reached the ship. "Wow, it's huge," was my first thought when we finally saw Mein Schiff 6 docked in Bayonne. Fortunately, boarding here was very fast. As our little daughter once said, when we first sailed with Mein Schiff 2 after tours with Mein Schiff 1, "It feels like coming home, and someone has just repainted it." This time it feels like coming home, and someone has completely renovated and rebuilt the entire ship. Nothing was in its place anymore, and I was still searching even on the day of departure. Our first stop was the excursion team. Unfortunately, as expected, the desired bike tour through Manhattan was completely booked out, so we had to explore New York on our own the next day, on foot. Next, we looked for our cabin, 8004. It was located at the front of the ship on the starboard side and surprised us completely. It was spacious, bright, friendly, and the balcony was also impressive. We quickly put down our carry-on luggage and headed to the completely redesigned Atlantik Restaurant.
