Fiji's corals are unique. The size, the variety, the colors and the shapes are impressive and give hope that climate change will not take hold here any time soon.
The conditions in Fiji are still ideal: temperatures around 25-26° Celsius, a constant current, relatively clear ebb and flow differences and the absence of cruise ships or other shipping routes.
Whether in yellow or purple,
With a little light from the flashlight, the gray-blue turns into bright colors.
Whether hard and rock-forming or soft - the corals use different shapes to bind enormous amounts of carbon dioxide from the water.
Red soft corals are like blooming roses:
Or in individual holes, like this little crab:
Or worms: But more about that at Christmas 😉
If you take a closer look, you can see how important and irreplaceable corals are...not just for marine life: coral bulwarks that have grown over thousands of years protect many islands, including Fiji, from floods and erosion Sea.
