Hello dear ones.
Since we now have our first free weekend, we are of course taking advantage of it as well. Yesterday we went to the Botanical Gardens.
At Hannah's request, we all reluctantly got up at 8 o'clock, showered, had breakfast and packed our things to leave at 10 o'clock. We walked for about an hour until we reached the gardens. On the way there, we saw the largest and fluffiest dog in the world. I wanted to take it with me. But oh well. You can't have everything. I still don't have a pony. Thanks, Dad 😂
When we arrived at the gardens, we first walked to the rose gardens. They smelled so good that I just wanted to lie there for hours. Then we crossed a bridge and a small forest to a slightly larger meadow where we took a short break. Shortly afterwards, we encountered some very friendly squirrels that I tried to feed with a pear. But it didn't seem to be very attractive to them. I was about to give up when one of them came to me. I was delighted, but then it simply stole the whole pear I had in my hand and disappeared onto the next tree. For those who don't believe me, I have video proof 😂. We continued to walk through the gardens for a while. The palm houses were unfortunately closed due to Corona, but it was still beautiful.
After the Botanical Gardens, we decided to go to Sandymount Beach as we actually wanted to go swimming. Somehow we managed to be there exactly at low tide again, so going for a swim was a bit difficult. The beaches we have been to so far have always been very flat and the sea has been very far away at low tide. So we decided to simply walk towards the sea. In retrospect, maybe not the best decision 😅. We walked. And walked. And walked. And still didn't seem to get any closer to the sea. After what felt like an eternity, we decided to stay at one of the remaining sandbars to swim there. So we took off our clothes, jumped into our bikinis, and went into the water. After a short splash, we realized that our backpacks and clothes were closer to the water than before. Low tide is accompanied by high tide, and we underestimated it a little bit. We watched as the water gradually sloshed over the ridges of the sand and rose higher and higher. We tried to put on our clothes as quickly as possible and get back to the beach, but we only managed to put on our tops before the water got too close. Just before reaching the beach, we finally managed to put on the rest of our clothes without being swallowed by the water.
After that, we were all pretty tired and ready to go back to the apartment. It was an eventful day.
Today we went to the National Art Gallery again, and right now we are sitting in a cafe sipping iced coffee. The blog post will be up tonight or tomorrow.
Until then,
Slàn
