Off-Grid in Wrangell

Հրատարակվել է: 26.06.2018

After arriving in Wrangell, reality catches up with us a little. We have a busy schedule planned and realize during the on-site organization that the plan - to visit the attractions in the Inside Passage before the big guest boom - is working out too well, the salmon are not here yet either.

With Sunrise Aviation, we take a spectacular flight over the Stikine River Delta, the Le Conte and Rousseau glaciers. In addition, we have negotiated a stopover in Petersburg, the 'Little Norway' of Alaska, with Tyler and Mike. Of course, nutritionally, anything deep-fried in beer batter is a 'mess', but it tastes super good. In addition, we find halibut and all kinds of salmon that are caught in Alaska to boost our protein supplies.

To make the best of a bad situation, we have planned some 'off the grid days' at the remote campsites on the Nemo Loop (Three Sisters, Highline), interspersed with shorter hikes. The Shoemaker Shelter can be reached via a wooden bridge with an estimated 250,000 steps (400 meters in altitude). But it's only possible because the rainforest and the 'muskeg' are so swampy and soft that hikers would ruin the entire ecosystem.

Today, on 06/26, we will continue to Juneau. Instead of An-An Creek, we will visit Pack Creek on Admiralty Island. Before that, we have some chores to do, like refilling propane, washing Verny, who got really dirty on our trips into the hinterland, and blogging a bit.

So long and fingers crossed for the national team against Costa Rica.
