From our port we were able to go on lovely tours with the e-bikes. Of course we had to replenish our supplies and the beer was also slowly running out. Of course, we had to find a Lidl. We found one about 8 km away at the gates of Pollença.
A wide road leads from the harbor in this direction. The nice thing about the roads is that they are accompanied by a wide shoulder, so we as cyclists felt well looked after.
Equipped with saddlebags and a backpack, we set off. Typical for Mallorca is the relatively high density of cyclists, but most of them do it in a sporty manner, with a certain level of ambition. The road to Pollença climbs very slightly and hats off to a semi-professional who can easily reach 30 km/h on such a slight climb despite the headwind.
We have now changed our team, Heike is riding ahead, so I can see her much better. So we had one of these riders in front of us on the climb to Pollença and the gap was noticeably smaller. Heike then actually had the courage to step it up a notch and made the soaked rider look really old. She just drove past him, I could see how he thought about it for a moment, but then reason prevailed and he let Heike pull away.
But now came what had to happen, and I gave him the next humiliation from a short distance away. Sitting upright in the saddle, I relaxed and rode past him with a pitiful look to the side. That was too much, he really stepped it up and, like in a stayer's race, he rode half a meter behind me so that I could feel his breath.
He held this position for about 3 km and I assume that it was a relief for him when he called out loudly to a friend at the side of the road and was able to turn off for some small talk.
My fingers were already itching, I could have easily taken it up a notch.
Pollença itself is a historically grown place with narrow streets and houses made of natural stone. There are now some upscale restaurants, various museums, exhibitions and much more. A visit is an absolute must.
Later in the afternoon we found a delicious restaurant on the beach promenade, as I had invited my first officer to dinner. When we got there we studied the menu that was posted. A delicious steak was my plan. Opposite the restaurant there was a stage on the beach and tables that were served from the restaurant, so we sat down there. We studied the menu and whoosh, the delicious steak was no longer there. We ordered anyway, we are still flexible, until we finally noticed that the stage belongs to the restaurant next door.
We can recommend it, even though we had to adjust our expectations to the different dishes, we were very satisfied. At least the plates were not quite as tidy as in Sant Antoni, Ibiza.
