On the next day we wake up a bit stiff but the sun greets us and makes the frosty getting up a bit easier. Today we're heading to the Tama Lakes.
The 5-6 hour hike is definitely worth it. The gigantic view of blue lakes and snow-covered volcano peaks is simply unique.
Despite the beautiful impressions, we are glad to be back at the car. But we also appreciate our luck, such clear days are rather rare in Tongariro National Park - nevertheless, the wind was blowing very strong at the lakes and could easily throw a child off balance.
Despite heavy feet, we decided to drive further towards Turangi and Taupo. There we found a campsite right on Lake Taupo and fell asleep with a wonderful view of the roaring lake and its black swans.
