On Saturday afternoon, we started the bus ride. The final stop was supposed to be Hoi An. Departure was at 11:40 a.m. and we were supposed to arrive on Sunday at 09:00 a.m. with one transfer. Well, luckily, there were these sleeper buses again.
On the last evening at the hostel, the new hotel bar was inaugurated, and the hotelier also had his birthday, so there were a few rounds on him. You don't want to be impolite and of course, we had some drinks too. So the night went on longer than planned, but it wasn't a problem...
The bus ride itself was okay. Due to some poorly built roads, it was a bit bumpy, but the view was amazing. In the end, we reached Hoi An at 4:50 a.m... and now... We decided to walk to the hotel and see if anyone was awake. It was a good decision because we passed by the fish market and there was already quite a hustle and bustle. Luckily, the reception at the hotel was already open, and for a few extra bucks, we were able to check in early. So off to the room and catch up on sleep. In the afternoon, we explored the city, and in the evening, we explored some more. Hoi An is a small town with very old houses that have been restored to their original state thanks to UNESCO, and there is a bustling crowd of traders everywhere, trying to sell everything to anyone. There are lanterns everywhere, and the river is full of small boats and candles. It's simply an amazing little town where you could easily stay longer. Also, there are some 'culinary highlights' here. For example, Banh Bao, which is small filled ravioli with shrimp filling and fried onions... Well, it tastes as it looks 🤣
On Monday, we took our bikes and explored the rest of the city and spent time at the beach. We also planned the rest of our journey. Tomorrow, I will leave at 9 a.m. on a scooter for the 180km journey to Hue, and Tommy will take the bus, so we should meet again in the evening 😉
