As always, we arrive in Krasnoyarsk at 10:07 on the dot and go straight to our hotel where luckily we get our room right away.

Here is the central square with a monument of Anton Chekhov, a famous Russian playwright, and in the background our hotel.

After our 3 nights on the Trans-Siberian Railway, we enjoyed a refreshing shower. After the rather sedentary days, we walked on foot to the Paraskeva Chapel, from where you have a beautiful view of the city and the Yenisei Valley. The chapel is depicted on the 10 Ruble banknote, which is no longer so common, as it is being replaced by a coin. The first banknote came into my hands in Krasnoyarsk 😊

In the distance, the chapel is already visible

There is still snow in the skiing area on the opposite side

Railway bridge over the Yenisei, the 5th longest river in the world. In the summer months, ships operate on it to supply the population in the north with goods.

Krasnoyarsk was a closed city during the Soviet era, not only for foreigners, but also for Soviet citizens who were not residents of the city. By the way, Helene Fischer was born in Krasnoyarsk.

Church of St. John the Baptist

To beautify the city, over 200 fountains have been built since 2000.

Krasnoyarsk is the most central metropolis in Russia due to its distances to the borders in all directions. During the Soviet era, a lot of atomic and defense industry was located here. There is also one of the world's largest aluminum plants. Depending on the weather conditions, the air quality in Krasnoyarsk is accordingly...

May 9th is Victory Day, a holiday for Russians with parades throughout the country, and for us it's off to Irkutsk.
