Saturday, May 4th/ Sunday, May 5th:
Before the first stage of the EV 1 finally begins on Monday, we treat ourselves to two more days in Porto. That's a good thing, because firstly there is a lot to see and secondly it rains a lot. Fortunately the rain eases on Saturday around midday and stops completely in the afternoon. We visit the well-known tourist destinations such as the Dom Luis Bridge, the old city district on the Douro - Cais da Ribeira, climb the Torre dos Clerigos, enjoy a glass of port wine in a winery, visit the Se do Porto Cathedral and take the bus to the mouth of the Douro in the Atlantic. We meet a man from Dortmund who has just spent four weeks on the pilgrimage from Bilbao to Santiago and who tells us about his experiences with great enthusiasm. According to his own statements, he has overcome a life crisis, freed himself from material constraints and wants to walk the pilgrimage on two other routes soon. We also walk eagerly during the two days, walking up and down alleys and getting to know the city. We get used to the Portuguese way of life with long coffee breaks at Pingo, Cafezinho or Galão with something sweet, a good beer (Super Bock), excellent fish dishes and good wine and always friendly people. We are now spending the next fourteen days in this country.
Wine recommendation: Restrito de Colheita Douro DOC 2020 The stages ridden are public on komoot for you to “follow”.
