Goodbye San Sebastian.
What a spectacular city, but I can't take a week-long break to enjoy everything here right after the first stage.
The Camino is wonderful again. On the right side is the sea and on the left are beautiful valleys, mostly dominated by agriculture. When I pass by orchards, I can already smell the slightly fermented fruit that has fallen to the ground. A nice sweet smell. If I had space in my backpack, I could collect loads of chestnuts and some nuts as well.
By midday, I reach Orio and take a short break in the harbor with 2 sandwiches and a shandy (the 2 beers I had yesterday afternoon didn't sit well with me later on).
I arrive in Zarautz faster than I expected; I quickly find the hostel I selected. However, the reception is only open from 3:00 PM. I spend the time with a delicious cappuccino and eat some fruit and pastries. Then I find out that the accommodation is fully booked. The other two places I try are also full, with more surfers than pilgrims (I can tell by the gender!). I really think they should rename the accommodations 'Surfers Paradise' instead of 'albergue peregrinos'.
But just when you think you can't go any further, a glimmer of hope appears from somewhere....
I decide to continue walking to Getaria, a picturesque little town with charming streets, interesting shops, a small harbor, and hopefully some good restaurants. I'll find out.
