This trip is one of those that you don't want to write about because it makes you so aware that it happened. It was 2 such beautiful days that can't really be put into words. I'll still give it a try:
On May 31st, we got on the bus very early in the morning to go to Tofino. I had been looking forward to this trip since the beginning of the year. After about an hour of driving, we made the first stop at Cathedral Groves, big, thick trees, it wasn't anything special, but great for stretching our legs. Then we continued through Port Alberni and into the hinterland. And when I say that, I mean it. For the next 2 hours, all we would see were trees, mountains, lakes, roads, and cars. After a while, there was another stop at a waterfall where we could climb around. The last leg took another good 2 hours, which went by quickly in good company. Eventually, the land became flatter and through the forest, we could even see the beach. When we arrived in downtown Tofino, we had some time to eat and look around. There, we went to the surf shop and got our wetsuits. From there, we drove to Chesterman Beach. That's where the land lesson started and then we finally hit the waves.
I had never surfed before but had wanted to do it for so long. The feeling of finally waiting for the wave, paddling and standing up was incredible. In that moment, only that mattered and all other worries were forgotten. As cheesy as that sounds. The 2 hours we had went by way too quickly. In the end, we were all exhausted, the effort, the sun above our heads, the Pacific.
In the evening, we had a BBQ at the hotel. Afterward, we went to the beach again. So many beautiful photos were taken at sunset. We all fell into bed exhausted at night.
Unfortunately, the weather the next day wasn't great. But we only had a brief stop at Long Beach, which, as the name suggests, is the longest beach on Vancouver Island. From there, we headed back. We made one more stop in Coombs, where there was a small market that sold, among other things, good ice cream. From there, we went directly back to Comox Valley.
Probably my best experience here in Canada. Such an intense experience and so many wonderful people I could share it with.
