Exploring Bolivia with Elisa

Közzétett: 23.04.2018

There she was! My best friend from Germany had actually made her way to Bolivia to visit me for two weeks in South America. I waited at the airport in Sucre, unable to contain my excitement until I could finally embrace Elisa.

Over the next two days, we explored Bolivia's capital, enjoying the sun and warm weather, and being captivated by the new country. Bolivia's capital fascinated us with its numerous white buildings and churches. We particularly enjoyed seeing the women in their traditional clothing going about their daily tasks.

In the afternoons, we wandered through the market, trying new fruits and vegetables that we had never seen before. We also couldn't resist getting some of the typical hair ties. These hair ties are decorated with colorful ornaments and large weights to keep the long braids of Bolivian women from flying around.

From the most beautiful city in Bolivia, we continued to the valuable Potosi. The city became rich and valuable shortly after its founding in 1545 through the extraction of ore and silver from its mines. The colonial city center is adorned with numerous churches and artistic architecture. In one of the best museums, we were enlightened during an interesting tour about Spanish oppression and the production of silver coins.

Next on the itinerary was Tupiza. Marine had also joined us by now, so the three of us embarked on a great day hike, past impressive rock formations and beautiful landscapes.

But the biggest highlight of the Bolivian trip was yet to come: Uyuni - the largest salt flat in the world.
