On Sunday, as the conclusion and athletic highlight of our LA stay, we dared to go on a popular hike among locals and tourists to a viewpoint called 'Runyon Canyon'. After already walking around the city for 3 hours on Saturday in a sundress and Converse shoes and feeling quite exhausted afterwards, I chose a more sporty outfit today with good breathable fabrics (long live The North Face) and my comfortable Adidas Ultra Boost shoes with Continental™ soles (product placement 😀). Even though it was only 8 o'clock in the morning, sweat was already pouring down. According to Google Maps, the way to the park would take about 75 minutes - including inclines! We already doubted if we would even have the energy to climb the hill afterwards!
Once we arrived in the park, we found ourselves in a high-risk zone for wildfires: parched bushes and sandy ground. And there was no shade in sight! While we were struggling with the heat, the Americans leisurely walked up the hill with their many dogs. 'If they can do it, we can do it too', we thought to ourselves and were rewarded with a beautiful view over all of LA and the Hollywood Hills.
(Speaking of heat-resistant Americans: Several Uber drivers asked us how we liked it here. We often answered that the weather was great, very warm/hot, which was mostly met with a remark like: 'Well, it's actually not hot at the moment', 'It's much hotter in Nevada and Texas'. Oh well, then we didn't say anything 😊)
After two hours of working out on an empty stomach, we were very hungry and ordered an Uber to 'Joey's Café', where we ordered delicious chilaquiles.
The day was still young and we had a lot more to do, as Sabine was flying back to Switzerland the next day. We thoroughly checked out the newly opened Westfield Century Mall, where we had only been briefly last week, and then paid a final visit to the shopping and entertainment complex 'The Grove' to take advantage of the 'Half Price' promotion at the Cheesecake Factory and go to the movies again. This time we watched 'Wonder Woman'.
I will spend another night in LA with the travel group on August 22nd, reunion is joyful.
But first, I will be traveling alone for a week. I am flying to Jackson Hole today and will explore the Grand Teton National Park and the Yellowstone National Park from there. I am really looking forward to it!
Have a safe flight, Sabine! See you soon! It was great 🎊🎉🤗☀️♥️
