Let's go to Tirana, luckily we decided not to make a stop in Podgorica. The only noteworthy thing here is a completely pointless 2-hour stay at the border. When we arrived at the bus station, Jimmy picks us up and drives us to the hostel in his taxi. After a short search, we find it. The first evening is spent quietly, we go out to eat and explore the city a bit. However, it's a bit confusing here. We pay about 4.50€ for two drinks and a really delicious pizza. Not bad at all.
So the next morning we go on the Free walking Tour, which, like in Porto, turns out to be damn good. We learn a lot about Albania's history and about the communism that was here, but we also understand the city better. In general, the city gives a very safe and pleasant impression and doesn't seem like a city with a million people. And none of the prejudices we have are confirmed, on the contrary. The rest of the day is spent strolling through the city, visiting BunkArt (a museum in a bunker about communism), and having a bite to eat in a SkyBar. (3€ per person including a drink)
On the second evening, we go out to eat/drink with an English couple, which logically ends in a disaster. We try out different beers and bars that we come across on the way. And on the way back, we are escorted by a total of 5 street dogs over a distance of certainly 2 km to our hostel, extremely funny, because they attack every cat and dog that crosses our path. So, as a reward, we give them water at the hostel, it was a bit too much to feed the hostel cat.
A bit hungover, we go to the bus and realize that there is space on one side and no space on the other side. Unlike what we are used to, all tourists are placed on the side with very little space and the locals on the other side. Somehow funny, but only in hindsight. On the way, we realize that the traffic in Tirana or in Albania in general is a bit more chaotic than at home, but it also has something special, even when cows or donkeys cross the road, nothing happens other than driving around them and of course honking. The bus ride was a horror, fortunately it only took "only" 6 hours, because we went up and down a mountain in zigzag. I am glad that we don't have to go back that way and that my stomach contents stayed where they should be.
Now we have arrived in Himara and are already on the way to Corfu, where we will have a few quieter days and relax on the beach. Let's see what's going on here.
I can definitely recommend Tirana for a few days, probably even more!
