Today we are heading to the Misty Fjords National Monument, which is located just 22 miles east of Ketchikan and is a natural mosaic of sea cliffs, steep fjords, and cliffs rising 3,000 feet directly from the sea. The monument gets its name from the almost constant rainfall that is characteristic of the area. It is covered in dense rainforest, which grows from sea level to the mountain peaks on nearly vertical slopes. The wildlife in the Misty Fjords is abundant and diverse, including mountain goats, brown and black bears, moose, marten, wolves, wolverines, river otters, sea lions, seals, orcas, and porpoises. And exactly such a porpoise we can observe on our Zodiac boat excursion, right next to the boat, it's so close, unbelievable experience. We also get to enjoy many bald eagles, whether taking a siesta or circling above us. On our journey, we encounter another group of porpoises and humpback whales in the evening, simply unforgettable experiences.
