Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly, let's fly...
So my next stop on the way to Cusco was Nasca, which is a relatively small town, which is famous for its closeby Nasca Lines. Only in 1924 those lines on the ground were discovered and they are believed to be from 800 - 600 BCE. CRAZY!! Some of them are more than 20km long and many of them are linked to animal figures. On my 30mins flight I saw the Whale (65m length), the trapezoids (93m), the astronaut (32m)
No one is sure about why people drew those lines on the ground. Different assumptions state that people used it as an astronomic calendar to predict when the soil was particularly fertile, or that religious rituals were performed there. The reason why the lines are still existent today is that it never rains in the area!
I had an amazing time in Nasca, stayed in a lovely hostel and enjoyed some of the delicious Peruvian cuisine.
This is the end of my small trip to Cusco. I now have a 15hours bus ride in front of me before arriving in Cusco, where I will start my language course and live in a Peruvian family. All very exciting! Love it here so far
