Quito has the most beautiful old town of all South American cities. And the most original street in this old town is 'La Ronda'. In fact, one could easily make a film here from the time of the Spanish conquest. The electrical cables would have to disappear and be replaced by torches, and that would be it.
In this street, there are some craft shops, but above all restaurants and karaoke bars. In the evening, it is very popular to go out with the whole family. For example, our student group had a good meal in one of the restaurants with a big empanada, while at the table behind us, a large family also did the same, but sang along loudly with the live guitarist on the stage. Pura vida, that's what comes to mind.
Before eating, we walked along the street several times, visited various craft shops, had a beer in a karaoke bar, and ate ice cream in an ice cream parlor. Interesting flavors: One of them is 'Caca de Perro'; you'll have to find out for yourself what it means, it's made from sweet corn and tastes excellent.
One more comment on the last entry: Some problems solve themselves. The sleeping issue has worked out very well for the second time now. Other problems are more persistent. It is so complicated to find a suitable SIM card or package here. I plan to take care of that today or maybe tomorrow. And since I'm really weak in Spanish, I have to prepare for it. I have to say what I want, and the telecom advisor has to put together a package for me. So far, it has always been the case that they presented their offers to me and I lost track after the first sentence. And it is actually true that it is also a real jungle for the other students who speak better than me when it comes to mobile phone offers.
At least a little consolation for me.
