A day in Regensburg - without a cuckoo
Before we could reach the first goal of the cycling trip, we had to do some work: washing clothes at the laundromat. A first for Maria.
Then we went from the Novotel to the old town. There was a lot going on, a nice atmosphere, the old town center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And we thought it was very fitting that the city is often referred to as the northernmost city in Italy. For lunch we had 500-year-old bratwurst (see https://www.wurstkuchl.de). One of the important destinations on the bike tour.
The sausage was good, but on the trip to Regensburg we had comparable quality for half the price.
But the alcohol-free beer from Jacob Brewery was excellent.
The organ in the cathedral is constructed as a free-hanging structure and hangs from a steel construction that is anchored in the roof structure of the cathedral.
The organ was newly installed in 2007. The organist sits near the altar, the manuals are connected to the organ via fiber optics. In the center of the organ there is a place for the organist, which is used a few times a year. The organist takes a lift up to the organ. Crazy! More information here , for example.
