16.9. Elk Island - on the hunt for traces

Közzétett: 22.09.2019

After breakfast, we drive to the nearby Elk Island National Park, where there are not only elk but also moose. But first, we come across some bison on the way and we can observe the herd with their young animals very well.

They still exist - Bisons
Then we go on two hikes through dense forests in search of moose. The landscape is magnificent with idyllic lakes reflecting already colorful trees. We don't encounter any moose, but we do find clear and fresh traces of a bear. We make some noise, hoping that the bear hears us, and for precautionary reasons, we retreat.

We are always amazed by the huge beaver lodges, and we also see beavers in the lake.

Conclusion: a great national park where extensive hikes can be undertaken. There is a visitor center at the entrance, the family pass costs $16 CAD, and along the way, you will find picnic areas equipped with BBQs and firewood.

Back at Karen's, Doug and Lucille are already waiting for us for dinner. Their visit to us was seven years ago, so there is a lot to talk about.

Our son-in-law is still in for a special experience in the evening. He is invited to a hockey game of the Edmonton Oilers, of course in the original jersey.
