For two days now, I have had visitors from home. So I had to go sightseeing again. You can discover new things while doing so. That's how we ventured deep into the old market building and found a kind of street kitchen in the middle. For the equivalent of €2.50 per person, there was delicious roasted chicken with inevitable rice, beans, and salad. It was really tasty. I mean, food isn't expensive here, even though Candida, my host mother, always complains about how expensive groceries are. Expensive is, of course, relative, but I've seen the prices at the market. Candida always buys only for the day. Only beans, rice, and dog food have I already seen here in larger quantities. Until recently, there was only instant coffee in portion packets, instead of a large jar (now in a small jar). And she buys sugar around the corner at the corner store, packaged in small plastic bags. And that's where everyone (no lie!) shovels three heaping tablespoons into each cup of coffee, so she has to go back again the next morning. That seems athletic to me, but not very economical. Sometimes she buys my morning fruit already cut from a street vendor, in a (what else) plastic bag. At the beginning, I was getting full board here, but in December I gave up lunch due to the project's working hours. So now I pay $50 less per month. When Elodi asked about the additional costs for lunch, they wanted to charge her $100. What a bunch of swindlers!
