We will be on Samui from January 8th to 14th, 2024. 🌞
As almost always, we book the minivan and the ferry from Surat Thani through 12GoAsia. We then pay another 500 baht (for both of us) for the taxi to the accommodation in Lamai. We stay 6 nights at the Private Lodge Beachside Samui Lamai. This property provides each guest with one scooter for free use per room. We are even allowed to do laundry for free and because we have booked 6 nights, we are taken to the ferry free of charge when we leave. A great offer that we didn't want to miss despite 30€/night. We were really satisfied with the accommodation 😊
We explored the island and beaches by scooter: our favorite is Maenam Beach in the north. Beautiful and not too crowded, nice sand and quiet location. Although of course there are many other beaches that are also incredibly worth seeing, that's what the island is known for. These palm tree-lined beaches are a feast for the eyes. (In general, the beaches in the northwest are lonelier and quieter because the tourist resorts are on Chaweng and Lamai Beach. Silver Beach was also bursting at the seams 😅). We are more those seeking peace and quiet.
But we didn't just visit beaches, we also visited Fisherman's Village in Bophut, the characteristic rock formations Grandfather and Grandmother Rock's and the terracotta-colored temple “Wat Ratchathamramam”. There were plenty of restaurants and cafes near our accommodation in Lamai. We always ate deliciously and well, sometimes the prices are a little higher, island prices, which was okay. I also had a great aromatic oil massage and Christian had the best Thai massage ever. The woman could really get to work 😄
On January 13th we met our friends +1 👧🏼 at Maenam Beach. They were traveling to Koh Samui that day with the shipping company “Mein Schiff” and we decided to meet them here today in Laos in December. :) We only had a few hours together, but these were particularly fun and so beautiful! 🫶🏼 For the first time we met friends from home during our trip 🥹 we will never forget this day. It was the culmination of a wonderful week.
The flight to the next country was already booked. We leave Koh Samui on January 14th. We board the ferry to Surat Thani at Nathon pier at 12 noon. We then take the bus back to the city center. As always with us, we had to kill some time this time too. So we went for a coffee and then dinner at a fancy restaurant. That same evening we take the night train to Bangkok.
In the morning we arrive in Bangkok okay, just a little sleepy. We lie down in the arrivals hall, where the air conditioning is already running at full speed, and “freshen up” first. Our flight leaves in the evening, so we spend the day here at the airport. We pass the time by watching series and listening to podcasts, and at lunchtime we go out to eat something in the food court. The hours pass and we can finally check in our luggage and check in with Thai AirAsia. Unfortunately the flight is slightly delayed. 🙃 Instead of shortly after 8 p.m., we land in HANOI in Vietnam at around 9 p.m. 🇻🇳 at Noi Bai International Airport. The driver of our accommodation is already waiting for us.
