Langkawi

Objavljeno: 16.04.2023

From the dream beaches in Koh Lipe we are now going to Langkawi. Our first stop in Malaysia. Langkawi is the largest island we have visited so far and without a scooter you are a bit lost. Unfortunately, this is exactly what caused us trouble on our first day. Near our hotel there was only one scooter rental, but it was closed when we went there. The hotel initially told us that they had rented out all the scooters, but we were able to rent one luckily.

Short rain shower, we wait in the dry

Our visit to the island coincided with the beginning of Ramadan. Which means that practically 90% of the shops are closed. The shops and restaurants that are open are mostly run by Chinese or other foreigners. That's why we mainly ate Chinese food in food courts on Langkawi. It was delicious and cheap.

Fascinated, we watch the man at the stall working efficiently, we agree that he could work just as well in a very good restaurant.

If you enjoy being on the go, you will like Langkawi. The island is perfect for exploring and can be easily explored by scooter. It is interesting that we mostly see local tourists and fewer foreign visitors. This is a stark contrast to the islands in Thailand.

We spend the days exploring the island. One time we go go-karting on a really cool track. Another time we take a cable car to a viewpoint on a mountain. But it all feels a bit empty. As if there would normally be at least three times as many people on the island. Many buildings have probably not been used for a long time.

Overall, it's nice to see Langkawi but it's not a must for us. If you like a quiet environment with beaches, mountains, jungle, and some activities, Langkawi is recommended.
