Space Needle

Objavljeno: 30.10.2018

Yesterday it was time to say goodbye to Ilwaco and head to our final destination. But first, we made a stop at Cape Disappointment. We were looking for the lighthouse, which is said to offer a great view of the ocean. Our path took us through the woods, over rocks, and through muddy trails. But we finally found it, and the view was amazing. Then we made our way back the same way we came. And if you're lucky, like we were, you might even see some wild and dangerous animals, like squirrels.

Next, we arrived in Seattle. Our bed and breakfast is in Capital Hill, 11th Avenue Inn. David, the owner, is a really nice person. He helped us carry our luggage up and gave us a map of the city. He also gave us a list of restaurants, shopping places, and much more.

We had to leave early today. The tickets for the Space Needle were already purchased the day before. It was said that without tickets, there could be wait times of up to an hour. We definitely wanted to avoid that.

The elevator alone took our breath away. With glass walls, it went up to 160 meters. Once at the top, the view was incredible. The rotating platform and especially the glass floor took some getting used to. Luckily, not the entire floor was transparent, so some people were able to stay close to the edges.

It's not for everyone to see what's 160 meters below their feet.

Back on solid ground, we smoked a cigarette to calm our stomachs.

A short walk away was our next destination, Pike Place Market. Like a huge farmers market, people sold everything imaginable at their stands. From fresh fish to comic books, spread across multiple floors. Right next door is a historically important point, the very first Starbucks.

Right next to the market is a curious, interesting, and at the same time disgusting art collection. The Gum Wall, a wall covered in chewed gum. Started as a protest decades ago, it is now considered street art.

Afterwards, we wanted to go to Pier 55. Usually, there are shops lined up here and there are also amusement rides. But when we arrived, the area was cordoned off by the police. Several police cars and a bomb disposal unit were on site. As we later found out, a suspicious object was found in the water. However, it was determined that the object was harmless. So we headed towards downtown to see the library and Pioneer Square. On the way, we suddenly saw a crowd of people and heard sirens again. Fire alarm in one of the buildings. Two fire trucks quickly arrived on the scene and went into the building. We couldn't determine exactly what was going on.

Finally, near our B&B, we had dinner. In Teriyaki & Wok, we had delicious sweet and sour chicken. It looked a bit shabby from the outside but definitely recommendable!
