It is 9:20 am. We are sitting on a bench at the ferry port in Oakland, waiting. Sun rays dance on the surface of the water, the wind whispers in our ears. We are waiting for our ferry to San Francisco. Half an hour later, we drive under the Bay Bridge and see the skyline of the impressive city for the first time. We pass by the famous prison island Alcatraz and arrive at Pier 39. We walk along the harbor, passing street musicians, artists, souvenir shops, and a lot of tourists. After a few minutes, we find ourselves at Fisherman's Wharf again. A paradise for seafood lovers. Crabs, crabs, and mussels. I decide to try the obviously most famous dish: Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl. I enjoy the creamy clam soup in the sourdough bread with every spoonful. Satisfied, we continue. 'San Francisco' definitely has too much to offer for one day. Nevertheless, we try to make the most of this day. We walk up and down the steep streets, cross Chinatown, and admire the 'most crooked street in the world' and relax in the park with a view of the 'Painted Ladies', a colorful row of houses in victorian style (known from the intro of the 90s sitcom Full House). In one of the many artistic hipster neighborhoods, we treat ourselves to an incredibly delicious ice cream and then make our way to the ferry. When we arrive at the port, the sun is slowly setting. The clouds hang like pink cotton candy over the illuminated Bay Bridge, the water reflects the whole play of colors. It is already dark when we arrive back at our accommodation, completely exhausted. With a delicious dinner and a chilled bottle of white wine, we let our feet relax in bed. They have done more than their usual service for us today.
