Sunday, February 25th, bike tour, Mandarin, citadel, coffee

Tshaj tawm: 25.02.2024

Today the day started early for mom because she really wanted to go running again. Unlike in Graz, there is already a lot going on here at 6:30 in the morning. Especially on the river promenade, where you can see dance groups, yoga groups, Thai Chi groups and much more. Here in Hue everyone seems to be very sporty, early risers.

After a quick breakfast, we got on our bikes and took a short tour through the nearest town.

Our guide drove ahead, albeit on a moped, showed us the way and we cycled after him to the town of Kim Long, which was a kind of suburb with small, beautiful houses and large gardens.

A descendant of the Mandarin (warrior from the dynasty at the time) and his wife welcomed us with a cup of green tea and showed us the family tomb.

Then we continued to Thien Mu Pagoda. Between a few tourists, many locals also spent their Sunday in the beautiful and quiet monks' gardens. By the way, we were also able to observe them at lunch.

The next stop was the Citadel (Royal Palace). Very beautiful, beautiful gardens and the back palace had many many decorations.

Now it was finally time for the first break. We made ourselves comfortable in a coffee house with an ice cream parlor and cake before we went for a walk along the Perfume River. We met a group of scouts and skaters.

Afterwards we sat in a coffee house and I tried a salt coffee, which consisted of a layer of condensed milk and a layer of salty cream, onto which the filter coffee slowly dripped. When the coffee was drained, you stirred it and then drank it. It tasted very salty...

Now we explore a few more shopping stores and end the evening comfortably.
