23.7.2024 Cherbourg
Today, around 10:00 am, I met up with Neil Sparks. We didn't have to go far to reach our destination for the day: 'La Cité de la Mer'.
Upon entering the museum, we saw a considerable number of different underwater vehicles, some original, some faithful replicas like 'Alvin', whose original had explored the 'Titanic'.
The star of the collection is the 'Redoutable', a French nuclear submarine and the largest of its kind accessible to the public.
Another hall is filled with exhibits related to the 'Titanic', including items recovered from the wreck. Cherbourg was one of the ports visited by the 'Titanic' on its maiden voyage.
In the auditorium, we watched two interesting half-hour films on the history of Brittany and the battle for Cherbourg.
We went back to our ship for lunch.
Only for dinner did I leave my cabin once again.
