Thailand 1 ๐Ÿ’

Tshaj tawm: 08.01.2019

Site 1. January, we are already on the way - and have experienced so much. We started in Bangkok. For two days, we strolled through the enormous city, took an interesting boat tour through the canal ๐Ÿ›ถ, and saw the lively floating huts on the river. After some detours (thanks to Tatjana's navigation) and 10,000 steps, we finally arrived at a great rooftop restaurant where we had a delicious meal and enjoyed a fantastic view of Bangkok ๐ŸŒƒ.

After 3 days, we continued into the jungle towards Kanchanaburi. Our guide was very talkative but also funny. He showed us beautiful waterfalls, a Mon (gypsy) village with elephants ๐Ÿ˜, and the River Kwai Bridge. Finally, we arrived at our houseboat (without electricity and hot water, but with delicious Thai food and a cockroach in the room, which we discreetly eliminated with Antibrumm ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ).

Back in Bangkok, we headed north. The first train ride (Bangkok-Ayutthaya) started off amusingly. First, we ended up on the wrong train and had to realize that the Thais, despite being friendly, often just shake their heads even when they don't understand the question. When we boarded the correct train, the automatic sliding door caught Roman's hand and he screamed in pain ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Thanks to VIU (advertisement), we were able to straighten out his hand again.

In Ayutthaya, we arrived at a very welcoming hostel and visited several temples, including one by boat ๐Ÿ›ถ

A day later, we continued by train to Lopburi - the monkey city. The monkeys mainly gather around a temple and are very curious. Tatjana, of course, had snacks in her backpack, and one monkey snatched something edible and startled Roman ๐Ÿ’

Back at the hotel, in the midst of a little "where-are-we-going-and-what's-next" crisis, we decided to treat ourselves to a delicious meal at a modern-looking local restaurant (Roman: fried rice with pork & Tatjana: French fries ๐ŸŸ โžก๏ธ vegetarian options have been relatively rare so far) ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป In this modern, exclusively Thai-speaking restaurant, we ordered two Chang beers ๐Ÿป, which apparently had to be bought next door first - but they nodded friendly and made us tourists happy!

The plans for the next few days are set - tomorrow we're heading to Phitsanulok. We're looking forward to the next adventures ๐Ÿ˜
