Rhine bike tour Day 3

Tshaj tawm: 15.07.2019

Local cuisine - next level reached! We have just been served a wonderful Swiss raclette. There is a kangaroo under our table, allowing us to pet it, while its comrades sit right in front of our window - as well as peacocks, donkeys, cows, and everything else you would expect to find on a real farm. The window in our room for tonight allows us a direct view of the cowshed: what more could we ask for.

But let's start from the beginning: last night on our way back from the pub to the hotel, we got soaked in the rain. The rain also wakes us up this morning. Since the weather forecast is more friendly from half past nine, we take our time at breakfast, after all, we are on vacation.

So at 10 o'clock, we set off on a new day. An important question can be answered right at the beginning of the day: where do Althüttner meet Sechselberger? Correct: at a roundabout in Chur, Switzerland! We knew that Silvi and Jürgen from Sechselberg are somewhere in the area with their bikes, but we actually catch the exact time frame of about 10 seconds in which all 4 of us drive through the same Chur roundabout! The joy is great - it's somehow cooler than winning the lottery. We chat for a while, take proof photos, wish each other lots of fun, and continue our journey.

Today, our route is truly flat, we ride along the Rhine with a smile on our faces and still enjoy the chance encounter when a nice lady greets us with "a schönes Dägli" and makes us laugh again.

During lunch break, we learn that a sandwich is also called "a iklemmts" in Switzerland - we only know pinched fingers or pinched nerves, so we find the Swiss extremely inventive to squeeze their food into sandwiches. After the coffee and bread break, we continue, Werdenberg is right along the way. The wooden houses from the Middle Ages are still inhabited. On the slopes, we see the first vineyards and notice the milder climate. The valley widens and somehow we can slowly feel the proximity of Lake Constance. At the end of the day, we have sunburn, laugh lines, and have petted a kangaroo.
