19th Day Aguilas - Mazarron (Porto)

Sunday 16.04.2023, today we wanted to take it easy, it's Sunday after all and there's a tough climb halfway. As usual, we looked for an affordable and well-rated hotel, then planned our route. We left the guesthouse around 08:00, the town was still asleep, no people around and no café open. At first, we had an energy bar, and a café came after about 10km. 'Café con leche, Café Americano, two breads with jam,' and we felt better. Afterwards, we continued, unfortunately there was a small hill with 450 meters of elevation in between. Since we started at sea level, we start from zero😉. At the top, there was a magnificent view and a nice conversation with an Italian woman who had worked in Switzerland and now lives in Spain. She and her fellow travelers wanted to take a photo with us and wished us a good onward journey.

Today we went through two national parks, 'Cabo Cope y Puntas de Calnegre Regional Park' (the one with the high mountain) and 'Siera de las Moreas'. In the latter, there were turtles, but we didn't see any (probably too fast for us). There was a long stretch of wild beach where many motorhomes were parked. Almost the whole way was well signposted with the 'Euro Velo 8', great👍

Overall, it was 49 km and 700 meters of elevation, and around 15:00 we had a celebratory beer near the hotel.
