01.05.2023 Seulo (Sardinia)

Tshaj tawm: 06.05.2023

This morning we both reached the peak of trunk plague. Today is a travel day again and we pack our equipment on the bumblebee. We say goodbye to our artichoke farmer and head to the May 1st tour. This time our destination is a mountain village called Seulo south of the "Monti del Gennargentu". The roads on this route are not so filled with sharp curves, which speeds up our progress. The last 50 km become narrower again and the roads get worse. We learn: a sign that says "Caution, construction site" on Sardinia means "Beware of heavy road damage in the next few kilometers." We drive on a small, narrow, dirty pass out of a curve, and before I know it, we are already half a meter lower - that is to say, the end of the asphalt. We have to complete something like an enduro park with a special exam for the next 5 km. Someone has put a lot of effort into this. Deep ruts, gravel, holes, puddles half a meter deep and 10 meters long. But as a graduate of the BMW Enduro Park, I have learned to deal with something like this. We also have to slalom through a herd of cattle that has settled in the middle of the course - they take it calmly. However, my adrenaline level rises when the next change in surface comes - in the form of fist-sized granite stones. The bumblebee becomes restless at the front wheel and wants to break out alternately to the left and to the right. It gets better with more throttle. We are relieved when we have passed all the tests and can drive the rest of the tour on a normal road to our destination. When we arrive in Seulo, we are supposed to turn left into a very narrow and steep alley - both I and the bumblebee refuse the recommendation of the GARMIN. The alternative I choose is no better - I stop near the accommodation, next to a wall, and marvel at cars that only narrowly miss my left pannier at a brisk pace. We are let in and I park opposite our accommodation - but without the pannier! Since there is no open restaurant in the village, we have to improvise today and prepare something in our small kitchen.
