28/10/2018 first day in Namibia

Namibia

So yes, I have been flying a lot today. Or was it yesterday? What's today? Oh well, whatever.

Everything went well except at the stop before Namibia where I transferred to the next plane. That one wasn't very professional. I wasn't sure which direction to go for the security check, so I asked at the information counter. There was a young dude leaned back in his chair scrolling on his phone. He just slowly looked at me and said: 'How am I supposed to know?'

So I kept searching and did find it; however, it was closed. It took about an hour until somebody showed up and started to let people through. I was still able to get to my plane on time though.

I just landed in Namibia now and will see if my visa and papers hold out through the immigration.

So the immigration worked out fine, I got my luggage, found my taxi, and now I am on my way to the hotel.

In the shuttle, I met Francesca from Italy; she has holidays for 9 days, then she returns back to her family with her 14-year-old son.

The hostel looks pretty nice; it has a nice little bar with daily dinner that you do have to pay for. However, breakfast is included. I am in a 4-people bedroom with 2 separate showers and a toilet, really nice.

I went to buy some things at the groceries center with Francesca. Though they did say during the day, as long as you stay away from downtown, you're safe; however, in the evening, you shouldn't walk around alone too long.

We were really confused with the traffic system. Some of the lights didn't work, and there was no real place for us to cross the street. Also, in Hong Kong, they honk a lot. Not loud, but just a very quick small honk. Everybody does that, and it's really confusing because you don't know if they honked because of you or something else.

I bought some fruit, yogurt, bread, an orange, and some sort of pizza piece. I had no idea how much money this was going to be. Also, it took a bit longer since the cashier had to scan a few of my items that I didn't know I had to. All in all, I had to pay 230 ZAR!! I had about 240 with me, so that was really close. However, when I later checked, I found out that that's about 15 Swiss francs, so it wasn't really that much. Also, I paid with the old money from the travels of Opa Kees😁. The cashier was really confused and took a while to study the notes, but in the end, she did accept them. When I asked what's wrong, she just said that she had never seen those kinds of notes.

At the hostel, I ate my lunch, got my laptop, and spent the rest of the afternoon here.

Tomorrow, I am getting picked up at 15:00, so I still have the entire morning for myself.

Now, I am going to take a shower and then go to bed. The next days, I have no idea how I will do with Wi-Fi and charging my phone, so maybe this is the last blog for a while

XXXXXXXX
