Sardinia Day 6 - The Third Concert

Tshaj tawm: 31.05.2023

The first item on today's agenda was a choir rehearsal, where a few a cappella pieces for the evening concert received the final touches. At the supermarket in Arborea, we made sure we had something to eat for lunch, and then it was time to make use of the free time until the evening.

Some of us went horseback riding with the hotel's horses, others played soccer, did water aerobics in the pool, or took the time to relax and rest.

The area around Arborea and the city behave quite differently from what we have seen from the island so far. Instead of winding roads and many meters of elevation, the land is flat and the layout of the city and the surrounding fields is strictly geometric and completely orthogonal. The city was founded in 1928, during the time of Italian fascism, under the name Mussolinia, and the once marshy and lake-rich area, with its diverse flora and fauna, was drained. The renaming to Arborea took place in 1944, and the name could be seen as a reference to the many trees (Latin arbor = tree) that must have been here in the past.

At 7 PM, it was time to depart for the Chiesa del Santissimo Redentore in Arborea for our third concert. We even managed to win over hotel guests from Germany as our audience - but only after we reassured them that we are not on an Abi-Sauf Tour, but rather a choir 😉

The choir S. Cecilia started, followed by the youth choir Don Bosco, both from Arborea. Then it was our turn. After the spiritual program, we sang the pop songs "A Million Dreams" and "Bohemian Rhapsody," which the audience loved and joyfully sang along to. The two choirs joined us afterwards, and together we sang the pieces "For the Beauty of the Earth" and "Kwangena Thina Bo," which we rehearsed in yesterday's workshop.

After the concert, we were provided with delicious food, which our hosts had prepared with great effort, and we ended the evening with music and dance.
