Obernai and Mont St. Odile

Tshaj tawm: 28.07.2019

The day started with a cozy breakfast, but there were some obstacles to overcome. The first problem to solve was the pan issue, as we wanted to make scrambled eggs. All the pans available were missing an important part...

...a handle... After an extensive search, we found separate pan handles...that was a bit confusing. Then our skilled friend had to work on the coffee machine to make it run automatically. It only happened during the mid-morning coffee, as he was still cutting the mattress during breakfast. So we had manually brewed coffee for breakfast :-) Of course, we have homemade jam for breakfast. Yes, it's surprising, right?

It's amazing what you can fit into a motorcycle...but it's all about priorities. But here in charming Dangolsheim, we have a small shop where they sell homemade jam. Okay, we'll know for next time.

After breakfast, we explored the village. Right in front of the house, a stork had built a nest.

Our cat would have had plenty of opportunities to show off its magical attraction...

...passing by small half-timbered houses

and winding gardens

we returned to the apartment for mid-morning coffee, which brewed by itself...but as I mentioned before.

In the afternoon, it was Adventure Time again...more than necessary, actually. But let's start from the beginning: we wanted to go to Obernai and then into the mountains. In Obernai, the force of habit led us to the church, as it couldn't have been the temperature.

The town is very nice, but it has too many tourists for our taste. I always get suspicious of stores that are open on Sundays.

However, I couldn't resist a shop with delicious chocolate and ended up buying some nougat chocolate with almond flakes and fleur de sel.

Gerhard raised concerns about storing it in the motorcycle case, but he was overruled :-) as it turned out, his concerns were completely unfounded.

Look at how they spell our Guglhupf here:

Back on the motorcycle, the route led us into the mountains to Mont St. Odile. It became foggy and there were fewer and fewer cars on the narrow road. The road was wet and we could barely see 20 meters ahead on the mountain ridge...it made me a bit uneasy...and that says something. Eventually, we crossed the pass at 1099 meters and continued to Col de Kreuzweg (a very fitting name!). After what felt like 10 degrees (well, it was 14) and 1000 turns, we arrived in Saales and had to have a strong coffee after this adventure. When we got home, I had to warm up under a blanket while my sweetheart cooked. The delicious fish pan woke me up, and I'm curious about what we'll do in Strasbourg tonight. There's some surprise planned.

See you soon, my dears!
