We have another long drive ahead of us today. We decide to drive the 360 km in the morning and explore Mackay in the afternoon.
Upon arriving in Mackay, the motel informs us that we can choose our continental breakfast for tomorrow: cereal, two slices of toast, and yogurt are available, which we can then eat in our room. We were looking forward to a breakfast buffet... We want to walk along the Bluewater Trail in Mackay, which is a total of 10 km long. First, we pass by the Bluewater Lagoon, the outdoor pool in Mackay. We walk along the Pioneer River, where a cheerful Australian proudly shows us the crab he caught. Then we take a detour to the Caneland Central Mall and have ice cream there. We continue walking the Bluewater Trail until we reach the Bluewater Quay and discover the wetlands. We even see a snake. In the evening, we go out for a burger and pack small bags at night, as we will be going on a three-day catamaran tour to the Whitsunday Islands tomorrow, where we can only bring small luggage with us.
