One week later

Tshaj tawm: 09.05.2024

My body has been home for five days already, but my soul is still lagging behind. It is not easy to process all the experiences, especially the positive ones.

First, I want to tell you how my journey home went. The only feasible solution was for André to pick me up in Carcassonne with our car. At short notice, his wife Sofie also wanted to come along. André has already made other long journeys with her. And that's why she wanted to be part of this adventure too.

They set off on Friday evening, slept in the car for about 40 minutes each with two breaks, and arrived at my place on Saturday at about 9:30 a.m. Both sides were delighted to see each other again in good health.

Since I had prepared the bike for transport, loading was quick and the “pre-calculated” seating arrangement was correct and all participants found a comfortable seat.

To break up the long journey, I invited them both to breakfast in the Cité. They were able to take a quick look at this beautiful old city and we enjoyed a great breakfast together.

At 10:15 a.m. we set off for home with me as the driver. We had around 850 kilometers ahead of us. A distance that I would have liked to have covered by bike. Then it would have been a few kilometers longer. I still want to do that, would you like to come with me? Maybe in the autumn of 2024?

We reached our destination shortly before 8 p.m. and after Geneva we changed drivers.

Brigitte surprised us all with a large and fitting decoration on the garage door. And things were even more amazing inside. A forest of leaves and photos awaited us, spread across 5 different small islands in the kitchen, living room and conservatory. Brigitte lovingly recapitulated and displayed all the important stops on my tour with photos from my blog. Thank you very much for this wonderful reception, for which there was not much time available.

On Sunday I was able to take my bike to my great bike shop in Willisau. It will stay there for a while until everything is ready for my next adventure.

Today it is already a week since this breakdown happened. By the way, it must have happened at 1:13 p.m. because it was only a minute later when I took the first photo of the torn belt. Markus then said that first a spring had broken and then the belt as a result. So a replacement belt would not necessarily have been the solution.

In the meantime, everything has been put away and today Brigitte and I finally cleared away all the decorations. So everything is as it was before I left? Externally, yes, but internally there is still a lot to process. My thoughts and dreams often and intensely take me back to the past weeks... and now and again to the future.

Many thanks to everyone who congratulated me so positively on my tour. Here are a few extracts:

Complete Iberotur José , France....good, there are some better things.

Nicole, it's great that you see it so positively. You've had a wonderful trip. No one can take away the many impressions from you. Stay healthy. And in Hamburg they say "Bye" - everything else is just chatter. ❤️

Karin from Teret We could have followed your journey and entries for a long time. A great performance, great pictures and reports. We are glad that you came through safely. Unfortunately, we do not always have control over the material. Get well soon. We look forward to seeing you again.

I am so incredibly proud of you. You did it, the bike didn't😅🥰

Dear René, It was nice to follow your tour. I congratulate you on this achievement. You experienced a lot during your trip and despite bad weather and other adversities you always had your goal in mind. It was a shame that the technology let you down, but your experiences will stay with you and continue to accompany you. I wish you a nice journey home and greetings, Hanspeter

Egon Dear René Congratulations on your success. After all, you made it to Carcassonne, a city I've wanted to visit for ages. I hope you have a safe journey home, although it probably won't take you past Köniz. Hopefully see you soon anyway!

Hello René Thank you for your many detailed and interesting blog entries about your big bike trip. Above all, I would like to congratulate you on this year's very strenuous tour around the Inerisxje peninsula; often on very adventurous and bad paths, and at an age when many people would rather just sit on the sofa and let the day pass by. It's a shame that the tour had to end so abruptly - but as Andre has already written: luckily only a broken bike, but no physical damage. Best wishes, Christoph

My body has been at home for 5 days, my soul is now broken. It is not easy to process too many experiences, especially positive ones.

First I want to tell you how my trip home was. The only viable solution was that André recognized me in our car in Carcassonne. A short while later, Sofie's expectations also came to our aid. André has made other great trips with her. And because of this I'll be part of this adventure.

We spent the night on Christmas Eve, spent 40 minutes in the car each day with two breaks, and returned to my house on Saturday around 9:30 a.m. I am very happy both sides for the healthy reunion.

As I prepared the bike for transport, the loading was rapid and the space distribution was "precalculated" correctly and all participants found a comfortable seat.

To interrupt the long journey, they invited people to have breakfast in the city. So we quickly put on this old helmet, noticed the pen, and enjoyed ourselves while having a wonderful breakfast.

At 10:15 we went home together as a conductor. We drove around 850 kilometers ahead. A route that I liked doing by bike. So we had a few kilometers more. I want to think about this day, do you like to accompany me? Quizzes on October 24th?

A little before 20 hours we arrive at our destination and after leaving Geneva we change conductor.

Brigitte surprised us all with her large and appropriate decoration at the garage door. And inside it was even more surprising. We expected a forest of leaves and photographs divided into 5 small different islands in the kitchen, the living room and the winter garden. In great detail, Brigitte recapitulated and organized all the important parts of my recording with photographs from my blog. Many thanks for this wonderful welcome, which I don't have much time for.

Sunday I could take my bike to my big bike shop in Willisau. They'll always keep a time limit until everything is listed for my next adventures.

Today a week has passed since this problem occurred. Of course, it should have happened at 1:13 p.m. because it was only a minute after I took the first photo of the round belt. Markus then says that he had a turn and, for that matter, he had the belt turned. A replacement belt does not necessarily have the solution.

Everyone has accepted Brigitte and I finally took off all the decorations. So everything is as it was before I left? Externally yes, internally too much to process. My thoughts and dreams allow me to return suddenly and intensely to the last few weeks... and then when the future approaches.

Many thanks to everyone who has made me so happy for my journey. The continuation shows some extracts from the same:

It's good that it looks so positive. Had a wonderful trip Now you can forget the many impressions you had. Stay healthy. And in Hamburg they say "goodbye", everything will be in a bar. ❤️

Karin de Teret

We might have followed your trip and your entries for a long time. Super great performance, super excellent photographs and information. We believe that being supervised with security. Unfortunately, the influence on the material is not always under our control. They give you a good rest. We expect a reunion.

You are incredibly horny. You're tired, the bike is gone😅🥰

Dear René, it was a pleasure following your run. Congratulations for this blog. During your trip you see many things and, given the short time and other difficulties, always keep your goal in mind. It's a pity that technology is deceiving you, but your experiences will continue to grow and accompany you. I wish you a good trip home and greetings, Hanspeter.

Egon

Dear René, congratulations on your exit. We rarely arrive in Carcassonne, a city that takes a long time to visit. They want a good trip home, which probably won't take them any further than Köniz. In any case, I hope you are green soon!

Hello Rene

Thanks for the many detailed and interesting blog posts about your long bike trip. All in all, congratulations to the winner who ran this year through the Inerxje peninsula; chosen for very adventurous and poor paths, and at an age when many contemporary people prefer to simply sit on the sofa and leave the day behind. In certain cases there is a problem that the cycle had tended to end so abruptly, but as Andre wrote: fortunately just one bike ride, but no physical damage. Greetings cordiales, Christoph
