Dear Travel Diary

In the morning, we watched a movie together with the sound of rain until it was time for lunch.
Just before 2:00 p.m., we wanted to leave, but we were delayed. When I tried to unlock my saddle to get the helmet and pack my backpack, I saw something black running around. There was a huge spider in there and it didn't want to come out. It was difficult to lure her out because she was running around like crazy and then hiding somewhere again.
After a while, she finally crawled out, but immediately went back under the saddle cover. Now I couldn't see her anymore and could only hope that she wouldn't crawl up my back while driving.
When we arrived at the construction site, we had to wait for a few minutes before we could pass the road. The construction site was on a steep slope and it looked pretty dangerous.
Once we got back down, we found ourselves in Hanalei, a green town with mountains in the background, from which waterfalls flowed from time to time. It looked beautiful.
We drove in changing weather of rain and sun until we reached Ha'ena Beach, where there is a cave next to the road. We also had to cross a small stream (Manoa Stream) with the scooters, which meant lifting our legs and going full throttle. Oh, it was fun!
At Tunnels Beach, we just passed by on the way back, as the weather wasn't cooperating and it's not really a super special beach anyway.
So we ended up getting soaking wet on the way back to town and sought refuge in the various shops before the rain.
We treated ourselves to an Açai Bowl at a food stand, which was garnished with airy coconut cream. It had a special taste, but it wasn't bad.
In the light sunshine, we went to Hanalei Beach, which had a beautiful pier. On it, I watched two boys fishing, doing it with such ease as if they had been fishermen forever.
Since it's Sunday, the road was open all the time and we were able to drive through before 5:30 p.m. So we arrived home shortly before 6:00 p.m. and enjoyed the last rays of sunshine by the pool.
We had dinner rather late because the Açai filled us up. And to end the evening, we watched a movie again, but I fell asleep in front of the TV.

Another week has already passed, which means today is our last day with the scooters.
Before lunch, we went to Kilauea Lighthouse, the northernmost point of Kauai Island. But before putting on the helmet, I was shocked: before I could put the helmet on my head, I saw the black spot again. With a shock, I put the helmet on the ground and the spider, which had made itself comfortable in the trunk again, fled into the grass. Phew, lucky again.
The Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge is an approximately 84-hectare nature reserve around the lighthouse, which is home to a large population of nesting seabirds.
Unfortunately, we couldn't walk all the way to the lighthouse because the road was closed, so we enjoyed the view of the lighthouse and the cape from further back. Since it's not whale season either, we couldn't see any whales and turned back.
On the way home, we quickly stopped at a chocolate stand before doing our last shopping at Foodland.
Since today, hopefully, the weather will finally change, we planted ourselves by the pool and enjoyed the warmth. The kids in the pool were pure entertainment today. They jumped into the pool in a funny way, dived for the balls, and made competitions out of it.
When they left, Drake from the opposite side came over and started a conversation with us. He also laughed at us for driving to Waimea Canyon in the rain, as apparently no one does that. He even saw us one day. Two girls on a scooter with sunglasses on, heads down, and shaking their heads as they parked the scooter. We were amused by how he described us, and it was actually just like that.
So he offered us a ride if we want to do something in the next few days.
Once we had enough sun, we returned to the apartment and soon had our pasta salad. Oh, it was delicious to have a completely different taste in our mouths than just rice and pasta.

The morning dragged on. Since we no longer have scooters, our daily program is to enjoy and relax. So we lazily stayed in bed until lunchtime and even longer, fell asleep again, woke up again, and got up for breakfast and lunch.
In the meantime, we heard and saw the scooters being picked up, our means of transportation for the past few days. We had to say goodbye to them with a touch of sadness last night.
After lunch, we went to the pool, which was completely empty. We played a bit of water ball with the ball that was probably left behind and enjoyed the silence until two noisy people entered the pool.
The day flew by with reading, and my book is already coming to an end. With the pleasant temperatures, it was cozy to just be on the sun lounger all afternoon.
