Saturday early in the morning, it began - I overcame the first hurdle. Sunrise near Leipzig, no traffic jams to Munich, and by noon I was at the parking spot at Walchensee. There I met Karl-Heinz, a motorhome enthusiast from the south of Berlin. His idea to go out for a meal combined well with my desire to move.
In the evening, the lake still looked a bit gloomy. The next morning was quite different, and I set off for a little morning round to not be too restless on the way to Lake Garda. Although the Brenner Pass is an enormous construction site, we were fortunate at noon and made it through quite well. The search for a campsite was not as easy - many are already closed. One kept its gates open for us and we looked down at Lake Garda ... breathtaking, and the weather was lovely too. The pizzeria around the corner was a true insider tip - a nice view, affordable and excellent food (with way too much house wine). Karl-Heinz proves to be a very pleasant travel companion, generous and entertaining.
After the sun announced the new day and we had a hearty breakfast (a croissant that would make the French blush), I tightened my hiking boots and set off. I first contented myself with observing the olive harvest along the way before joining in myself in 3 days. Well ... I certainly hope so. The entire area towards the Adriatic has been severely affected by flooding, road closures, and disasters.
