What can I say ... A day of harvest under the bright sun is beautiful and satisfying in this environment. However, it is also quite exhausting. The olive grove is located on a slope, and it takes quite a while to lay out the nets in such a way that the olives don’t roll off them (which they really like to do). Then they are collected with small rakes or by hand. This means you are constantly looking up with your arms overhead. My neck and shoulders are aching; sunscreen is advisable. And now my 5 years of climbing gym + yoga + lightweight come into play. I'm quite quick up the tree alongside the boss, harvesting from above. It’s a bit riskier, but significantly more relaxed and productive. Now the nets need to be carefully rolled up so that no olive is missed; into the box, box up to the car, and cover it to protect against the greedy wildlife. And then it starts all over again; down the slope, lay out the nets, pick olives, collect them, box, up the slope, car, down, up, pick, box, car, ... until 4 PM. Off home and into the shower. I’m beat and looking forward to lying down. After dinner together, I can't manage much anymore ... a bit of blogging, sending out applications, reading a book, brushing my teeth, sleeping, but I am satisfied and happy.
It's a wonderful experience!!!
Tomorrow it will be another hard day, but in another valley. I’m curious ... for tomorrow and also how my path to Germany will unfold.
