Schahaatz subscribed to the Hawaii Star Advertiser's newsletter based on a Hawaii travel tip. This was helpful because it reported on the fires on Maui and Big Island early (on Tuesday). So we had enough time to react.
Now the German news has also reported it to you. The fire has now devastated Maui, the next island on our route, and claimed over 55 lives.
Shortly after waking up, we received 2 emails from Mr. Kitzmann stating that we urgently need to take action. Change flights, cancel rental cars, etc.
We decide to extend our stay here on Kauai for 3 nights and then fly directly to Big Island and extend our stay there for 3 days as well.
We are fortunate that Mr. Kitzmann is working this Saturday and can take the necessary steps. We just need to take care of the hotels because we booked them ourselves.
Unfortunately, this proves to be not so easy.
First, check if this hotel is still available, then compare prices, look for alternatives and compare these prices. Realize that everything has become super expensive and that last minute options seem to be even scarcer here than where we are from. And actually, we have to wait for the flight change as well.
Alright, the hotels and prices have been surveyed, if we get the go-ahead for the flights tomorrow, we can book. That sounds like a plan.
You can't imagine how quickly time flies when you have to search for something.
So fast that it's already afternoon and we decide to do nothing today and enjoy the pool.
Here we meet Eva, Dirk, and their 12-year-old daughter Maya, a family from Bad Homburg near Frankfurt. They are on their honeymoon after 12 years of marriage 😅. We could be them because we haven't been on a honeymoon yet. We can either dedicate the current trip to it or maybe travel for our silver wedding anniversary next year. Anyway, Eva and Dirk are definitely real globetrotters. They have been to Nepal, North India, the Galapagos Islands, and Greenland, just to name a few destinations. Soon they plan to visit Southeast Asia. They wanted to fly to Maui yesterday and ended up stranded here.
We decide to spend the evening just the two of us, romantically with candlelight at the Italian restaurant, with Italian classics from the 1960s.
However, we have to hurry because restaurants here close by 9:00 PM at the latest, and it's already 8:30 PM, so much for romance ❤️🔥.
The pizza was delicious, just not the bruschetta
you should learn from an Italian, Google, or me once again.
