Freeway to the sky

Tshaj tawm: 22.07.2022

The farewell is difficult for us. A beautiful spot here on the beach of Peachland. Unfortunately, the beautiful days are over again. After a shitty night (it was unbearably hot - thanks menopause), the alarm finally rings at 7:00 a.m. Today we want to start a little earlier because we have almost 400 km ahead of us.

Goodbye Todds tent place

So let's pack everything up and get on the Freeway 97 towards Vancouver. Always steadily uphill, never downhill. Just as steadily as the mountain climbs, so does the fuel consumption of our 10-cylinder. Up until now, we've managed to consume an average of 20-22 l/100km. The mountain has mercilessly destroyed that, and the only reason we haven't exceeded 40 l is because of a short downhill drive in between.

The freeway snakes higher and higher towards the sky. It's within reach.

The landscape changes into endless green expanses and we change highways.

They can handle the power lines

Facts: do you know the difference between a freeway and a highway? The freeway is a fast road and the highway is a motorway. Both have entrances and exits, the lanes are separated by a green strip, and from experience we know that the roads of the freeway are in great condition compared to the highway, which has a few potholes in the middle of the lane - and even a few more in some sections.

Wind energy has arrived in Canada, these are the only 5 on the whole tour.

After 2 traffic jams, a short trip to the bottle depot, and almost 6 hours of driving, we reach our last campsite. Located on the outskirts of Burnaby, and once again right by the train tracks - but the train driver doesn't honk here, probably because it's too close to the city.

Look at that, isn't it nice of the neighbor, with a fruit basket as an explanation, that wouldn't have been necessary

Now it's time to pack our bags, clean up the car, throw away all the stuff we didn't manage to eat and is open, destroy the remaining alcohol, and prepare one last feast on our grill.

Delicious with ice cream

We debated for a long time whether to take the little one home with us, but since our luggage weight is very limited (we already had exactly 23 kg on the outbound flight and didn't consume anything), we reluctantly decided against it. Instead, we'll bring a souvenir for the boys.
