The mountain is calling

Tshaj tawm: 06.10.2018

This must be how Reinhold Messner felt when climbing Mount Everest, like we felt when climbing Mirray-Outlook at 38 degrees. (Approximately the same steepness and distance as the path from Feggendorf to Stollen hoch in the Deister).

After a hearty breakfast with happy eggs, we started our way to Mirray-Lookout much too late. 10:30 am is simply too late here. The first activities usually should have already been completed by then. Some have to learn through experience, others through sweat and pain. You can choose which drawer to put us in. It was quite warm and the path seemed endless. Fortunately, we had our hiking poles with us, so we didn't have to develop any additional sweaty fear in addition to the movement sweat. All the effort was ultimately rewarded with a beautiful view of a sea of trees.

We spent the rest of the day planning our route. We keep getting the feeling that we have too little time and have seen too little.

With this knowledge in the back of our minds, we then drove to Nourlangie for the sunset, after a quick dip in the pool. It would have been great if the sun hadn't been covered by clouds. Out of frustration over the failed sunset, Carsten bravely ventured into the crocodile danger zone at the nearby billabong (that's what the Aborigines call a body of water) and took pictures of birds.

The journey back home in the dark was another adventure, you never knew which animal would run in front of the car. First a black pig and then a kangaroo. Thank goodness we didn't hit both of them, we wouldn't have been able to fit them in our fridge.
